From October 13 to November 14, 2025, certain shops in the Pays de Montbéliard and the city of Héricourt have a surprise in store for you: displaying art in their windows, on their shelves, or hanging on their walls.

The encounter between art and shopfronts may seem surprising, yet since the late 19th century, artists have been working with shopkeepers to present their work in new ways. Shop windows and store interiors are potential exhibition spaces, blending outside and inside, private and public.

Bringing art into the local territory is also one of the core missions of Le 19, Centre Régional d’Art Contemporain d’Intérêt National in Montbéliard (Le 19, Crac), the initiator of this project. When it officially opened in 1995 at 19 avenue des Alliés, in a former Peugeot building, the center already embraced a site-specific approach by inviting artist Georges Rousse to create one of his famous anamorphoses. For Montbéliard, that work was RÉEL.

In 2025, Le 19, Crac celebrates 30 years of exhibitions within its walls. To mark this new decade, it has invited 11 artists who have left their mark on the center’s history, in dialogue with 10 shopkeepers and the Hérilab at Héricourt’s media library. This autumn, discover 11 brand-new works produced for the occasion. Welcomed into local shops, they also offer visitors the chance to experience poetic encounters.
